738,421. Rope strainers. LOMAS, A. April 15, 1954 [April 20, 1953], No. 10767/53. Class 45. A device for tautening load-securing ropes on vehicles comprises a trough-like frame 10 having longitudinal side flanges 11 for securing to the vehicle, a screw 13 rotatable in the end walls 14 of the frame and retained therein by a head 15 and lock-nuts 17, 18, and a member 20 traversible by the screw and carrying a ring or hook 21. A separate handle having a socket adapted to engage. the head is provided for actuating the device. A pawl and ratchet may be provided on the frame for preventing rotation of the screw except by the handle. The sides of the frame form guides for the member 20 but separate guides may be provided within the frame.
