Abstract

1366731 Cableways JAMES JONES & SONS Ltd 23 Aug 1972 39310/72 Heading B7L A cableway consists of a carriage suspended by wheels 9 from a carrying cable 1, the carriage having a drum 10 around different diameter parts of which are wound a pulling cable 3, a return cable 4 and a carrying cable 7, a disc 13 is rotatable around the drum axle 11 and is embraced by a band brake 22, as that in use tension on cable 3 will by means of pulleys 16,17 and levers 15, 19 and 20 cause the disc to be braked and initially the drum rotated until a load is raised and then the carriage run along cable 1, 9, ratchet and pawl 12, 14 preventing the cable 7 from unwinding so long as this tension exists. On release of this tension the cable 7 is unwound. When return cable 4 causes lever 19 to engage block 23 the brake band is fully released from engagement with the disc and further pulling of cable 4 will cause the cable 7 to be lowered.
