Abstract

1329856 Cable tensioning RICHTER 18 Sept 1970 [18 Sept 1969] 44714/70 Heading B8B An apparatus for maintaining a pre-determined minimum tension in a cable 9 extending between a winch 6 and a tower crane trolley 4 actuated by the winch, comprises a spring loaded jockey pulley 17 over which the cable 9 passes between the winch 6 and a storage drum 12 on the trolley. The jockey pulley 17 is mounted on a lever 16 pivoted at the axis of the storage drum and has a pawl 22 pivotally mounted thereon and engageable with a ratchet wheel 15 integral with the drum, a spring 18 exerting a tension on the lever 16, which through the pawl 22 causes cable to be wound on the drum in the event of slack in the cable 9. The ratchet 15 is also associated with a pawl 23 pivoted to the trolley frame 19, the pawl preventing rotation of the drum 12 once the lever 16 abuts a stop 20 upon the cable being tensioned by the winch 6 to move the trolley 4 to the right in Fig. 2, the winch 6 at the same time paying out a cable 8 attached through a spring 25 to the other side of the trolley. In further embodiments, the cable 8 is also or alternatively associated with a spring loaded jockey pulley and storage drum on the trolley.
