904,743. Testing vehicle brakes. KISMET Ltd. Feb. 21, 1961, No. 6292/61. Addition to 876,265. Class 106 (2). Brake-testing apparatus similar to that described in the parent Specification is modified in that the torque needed to maintain rotation of a braked vehicle wheel (as distinct from the static friction) is tested by using a drive for rollers 9, 10, on which the vehicle wheel rests, having varying mechanical advantage, namely, a driving chain 20 wrapping round a variable-radius cam 18, the (clockwise) driving torque being applied by a torque wrench, incorporating a dial gauge, engaging the square boss 15. In this Specification, anti-clockwise rotation is locked not by a pawl-and-ratchet but by a friction pawl 17. The latter has a dog that, on clockwise rotation, engages a similar dog on the cam 18.
