738,208. Driving belts. WHITTLE, O. L. May 7, 1954 [May 9, 1953], No. 12995/53. Class 80 (1). In a V-belt consisting of a series of metallic driving links alternating with pivoted metallic connecting links, each driving link comprises a pair of plates 6 of self-lubricating or oilimpregnated metal which are pivoted to single connecting links 4 of steel, the two plates 6 being tapered to engage a pulley groove and being held by a transverse screw or the like 7. The plates 6 may be faced with non-metallic material. It is stated that the taper angle of the belt and pulley is determined by the coefficient of friction and is in the region of 14 degrees.
