581,025. Driving-belts. WINGFOOT CORPORATION. May 18, 1944, No. 9586. Convention date, Jan. 27. [Class 80 (i)] A transmission belt of trapezoidal cross-section adapted to transmit drive by its inclined side faces, has, across its inner non- driving face, either chevron-shaped grooves 17, as shown, or obliquely shaped grooves. The angle Y of the grooves with a transverse axle may lie within the range 25 to 50 degrees. Such grooves reduce the tendency of belt rupture and hum in operation as compared with belts having grooves cut at a right angle to the longitudinal axis of the belt.
