Abstract

665,224. Driving belts. FEUERUNGSBAU AKT.-GES. June 27, 1949 [June 26, 1948], No. 17033/49. Class 80 (i). A driving belt for expanding pulleys comprises a fabric band 2 (preferably of nylon) having riveted or bolted thereto pairs of transverse bars 3, 4 composed of fibrous material impregnated with a solid resinous material. The ends of the bars are inclined so as to contact the pulley faces over a zone adjacent to the band 2. The contact zone may be entirely on the ends of the bars 3 or of the bars 4, provided that the faces of both sets of bars have a length equal at least to the band width. The lateral strength of the bars allows the use of wide belts and small pulleys, the angle a which the normal to the pulley face makes with the pulley axis being greater than the angle of friction to prevent jamming. Longitudinal sections of various belt forms are shown. In Fig. 1 the bars 3 are rectangular and contiguous, the bars 4 being trapezoidal; in Fig. 4 (not shown) the bars are respectively rectangular and trapezoidal but are spaced apart along the band 2; in Fig. 3 (not shown) the bars 3 are rectangular and contiguous, the bars 4 being also rectangular but smaller than the bars 3 and spaced along the band. In Fig. 6 the faces 10, 11 of the bars are cylindrically curved. In Fig. 7 (not shown) the bars 3 are rectangular and spaced apart, the bars 4 being replaced by thin metal bars. In Fig. 8 (not shown) the bars 3, 4 are each of trapezoidal section to allow flexing of the belt in two directions.
