737,687. Yarn reeling apparatus. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Jan. 6, 1954 [Jan. 6, 1953], No. 402/53. Class 120(2). [Also in Group VIII] Yarn reeling apparatus for reeling accurately measured lengths of yarn for the purpose of determining its denier comprises a reel 7, driving means (motor 18), connecting means (clutch 11, 16) between the reel and the driving means, timing means for automatically disengaging said connecting means after a predetermined number of revolutions of the reel and yarn traverse means driven from the timing means to guide the yarn to the reel and to lay the yarn evenly along the axial length of the reel. In the arrangement shown cam 25 is geared so as to revolve once during a predetermined number of revolutions of the reel 7 and the traversing yarn guide 31 is connected to the cam 25 so as to make one oscillation in the same period. The apparatus is set in motion by a handle (not shown) attached to lever 38 movement of which engages the clutch 11, 16 by means of lever 41 and through connecting link 39 disengages the nose 45 of lever 44 from the notch 26 in the periphery of the cam 25 and also disengages the plate 46 from the heads of screws 47 on the reel 7. After a predetermined number of revolutions of the reel 7, that is one revolution of cam 25, the nose 45 slips into the notch 26 thus locking the cam against further rotation and at the same time disengaging the clutch 16, 11 and causing the plate 46 to engage screw heads 47. A leaf spring 48 having sharpened edges is provided on the periphery of the reel 7, the two ends of the wound yarn being slipped under this spring and accurately broken off.
