Abstract
586,290. Winding yarn. CLARK THREAD CO. Aug. 15, 1944, No. 15556. Convention date, Dec. 17, 1943. [Class 120 (iii)] A mechanism for controlling the winding of predetermined lengths of yarn by a winding machine having detent mechanism which is disengaged to stop the winder, comprises a timer wheel geared to the winder to make one revolution during the winding of the desired length of yarn, a cam rotatable with the timer wheel and means for disengaging the detent mechanism including a member normally in the path of travel of the cam to be engaged thereby to interrupt the drive when the desired quantity of yarn has been wound. The timer wheel, consisting of two spaced discs 13 carrying a pivoted spring-urged cam 28 therebetween, is driven by reduction gearing 19, 21, 22, 23, 25, 16 from the spindle driving shaft so that the wheel makes one complete revolution whilst the package is being wound. The cam 28 thencontacts and lifts a roller 32 carried by a rod 30 attached to the arm 8 to turn the same about the pivot 9 so to release the latch piece 5 from the latch 7 to allow the usual spring-relieved clutch to be thrown out and the machine brought to rest. After passing under the roller 32, the cam 28 turns about its pivot so to be ready for another winding operation without manual re-setting. The timer wheel driving gear 16 may be replaced by another on the adjustable bracket 26 when a different number of spindle revolutions is desired before stopping the machine.
