Abstract

352,299. Measuring stop-motion for winding and reeling machines. RUSHTON, J. L., Kay Street Works, Bolton. Aug. 15, 1930, No. 24535. [Class 120 (ii).] In a measuring device for winding or reeling machines comprising a measuring disc provided with a slot which is engaged by a feeler, the movement of the feeler disconnecting the drive, the disc is rotated by a resilient drive, which causes the disc to advance slightly upon withdrawal of the feeler, thus preventing re-entry of the feeler into the slot when the machine is restarted. By the use of interchangeable worm wheels, different lengths of yarn can be measured using the same disc. The shaft 10 which carries the yarn holder is driven through a clutch 11, 12, and drives a member 50 on a shaft 16 bv reduction gearing 17 .. 20, and worm gearing 22, 23. The measuring disc 24 is mounted loosely on the shaft 16, and is driven by the member 50 by means of a pin 52. A spring 51 is secured to the pin 52 and engages a hole 53 in the disc 24. When the shaft 16 begins to rotate, the pin 52 travels across a recess 54 in the disc 24, thus charging the spring 51 which is not strong enough to rotate the disc against the friction of the feeler-rod 38 of the stop mechanism. The pin 52 then engages the side of the recess 54 and so rotates - the disc until the feeler enters the slot therein. On withdrawal of the feeler the spring 51 rotates the disc sufficiently to prevent the feeler from reentering the slot when the machine is restarted. The rod 38 carries at one end an eye 42 engaging a bolt 43, so that longitudinal displacement thereof causes the crank 44 and shaft 46 to rotate slightly, whereby the arm 47 bears on the conical face of the disc 14 and so disengages the clutch 11, 12. The machine is restarted by depressing the lever 45, thus withdrawing the feeler from the slot and re-engaging the clutch. A stop 49 is provided to limit the movement of the shaft 46. To permit different lengths of yarn to be wound, the shaft 21 is provided with a unit having interchangeable worms 22, 55 of similar thread, the pitch of one being a multiple of that of the other.
