Abstract

A granular aqueous rubber paste, for use as an intermediate porous layer in the manufacture of pile-surfaced fabrics (see Group VIII) is prepared by first mixing gutta percha with stearic acid and sodium oleate, masticating between heated cylinders, cooling, crushing, treating with hot air at 165 DEG C. in a closed vessel, and kneading with hot water to form a paste. The gutta percha paste is mixed with 60 per cent solids concentrated latex, accelerators, zinc oxide, lithopone, sal ammoniac, and colloidal sulphur, and the mixture is beaten with compressed air to form a foam, and coagulated by addition of aqueous silicoa fluoride dispersion. The solid foam is dried at 70 DEG C. and crushed between two disc-like plates turning relative to each other, to spherical granules 0.1-0.15 mm. The granules may be coated with Turkey red oil and are mixed with water to form a paste.
