Abstract

Superior processing characteristics are imparted to natural or synthetic, e.g. GR-S, rubbers by blending them in suitable proportions with a masterbatch containing a high proportion of vulcanized rubber particles embedded in a matrix of unvulcanized rubber prepared by coagulating a mixture of a high proportion of vulcanized latex with field (i.e. natural) latex. The masterbatch preferably contains 80 to 90% vulcanized rubber and is blended with sufficient rubber to be improved so as to contain approximately 80% unvulcanized raw rubber; either a wet coagulum of the masterbatch is blended with wet raw rubber, e.g. utilizing a crepeing battery, or a dry crepe sheet or crumb masterbatch is admixed with dry raw rubber, e.g. using open roller mills or internal mixers.
