734,978. Fibre drafting apparatus. T.M.M. (RESEARCH), Ltd. May 4, 1954 [May 13, 1953], No. 13378/53. Class 120(2). A textile drafting apparatus has a grooved roller and an apron that is received in the groove which is bridged by a co-operating roller to provide non-positive nip conditions for slipdraft fibre control. Preferably, an apron supporting roller 15 is provided with a groove 151 and a slip draft roller 20 rests upon the roller 15 without applying pressure to the apron 14. If an apron having a high degree of resilience be employed, the thickness of the apron 14 and the depth of the groove 15 may be the same. Instead of the apron guide roller 15 being grooved, an additional roller intermediate the roller 15 and guide bar 16 may be employed. In an alternative form, it is the upper roller that is grooved. Where the roller 15 is in an apron driving roller, Fig. 7, the guide roller 17 and tensioning roller 18 are carried between pairs of relatively pivotable levers 26, 27 urged apart by a spring 28. In another embodiment, Fig. 9, the apron 14 is driven by a roller 171 and passes over a tension roller 18 downwardly urged by a spring 281 compressed between a bell-crank 291 and an abutment 273 on a lever 27.
