Abstract
734,539. Arc-rupturing in switches. ETABLISSEMENTS MERLIN & GERIN SOC. ANON. Feb. 13, 1953 [Feb. 22, 1952], No. 4142/53. Class 38 (5). The energy stored when opening a highlyinductive D.C. circuit is discharged across an auxiliary circuit by ionization of a gap between contacts b, c, by the main arc between contacts a, b, an insulating barrier 12 serving to keep the auxiliary arc away from the main arc. A resistor 6 reduces the current in the auxiliary arc and blow-out coils 8, 10 are provided for the respective arcs.
