IMPROVEMENTS IN SWITCHES OF THE VACUUM TYPE FOR ELECTRICAL CIRCUITS characterized by using in combination a pair of cup-shaped electrodes each consisting of a bottom, a tubular wall that starts as a skirt of said bottom and ends in an annular configuration ; means for locating said separate electrodes with said generally aligned flaps and said facing terminations; each of said cup electrodes further has the tubular arc circulation edge curved inwardly of said skirt and electrical connection means between said skirt and the annular portion so that the current passing through this annular portion and said skirt is required to flow through said edge of circulation of arcs; an intermediate electrode provided with two tubular portions; means for electrical isolation of said intermediate electrode with respect to said cup electrodes when the switch is open and for mounting said intermediate electrode in such a position that its tubular portions are internally concentric with the annular terminations of said cup electrodes, so that the intermediate space constitutes the adequate one for the jump of arcs-connected in series; operable contact means in a closing position for supplying current between said cup and movable electrodes to an opening position to establish a pair of arcs-connected in series in an arc initiation region adjacent to the outer edge of said flanges , and means for directing said arcs in the internal radial direction starting from said initiation region towards said jump spaces of connected arcs in series.
