Abstract

734,103. Bearings. SWATMAN, P. P. April 28, 1954 [May 7, 1953], No. 12729/53. Class 12 (1). A spherical-journal bearing comprises a spherical shaft portion c, a complementary spherical housing portion d, and an intermediate member f having corresponding spherical surfaces. The member f has a cylindrical extension g upon which a collar h, eccentrically mounted in a ring i, is slidably and rotatably mounted. Rotation of the ring i by an epicyclic mechanism, comprising an eccentric j on the shaft and a ring k connected to the ring i by a floating coupling ring m, imparts a gyratory motion to the member f which prevents localized wear thereof. Two such bearings support a shaft a, the inner portion c of the left-hand bearing being slidably mounted on the shaft a. The bearings are spring-loaded axially.
