Abstract

779,191. Bearings. LUCAS, O. D. July 19, 1954 [July 20, 1953; July 20, 1953; April 27, 1954; May 6, 1954], Nos. 20125/53, 20126/53, 12231/54 and 13282/54. Class 12 (1). A bearing assembly comprises a sleeve 4, adapted to receive a shaft, rotatably mounted within a race, comprising annular members 1, 2 of synthetic resin spaced by a metal ring 3 and disposed in a metal casing 8. The sleeve 4 has a peripheral flange 5 which is disposed between the members 1, 2. The flange 5 may be integral with the sleeve 4 or it may comprise one or more split spring annuli. The bearing surfaces of the sleeve and race may have corresponding spherical contours. The housing may comprise similar interlocking parts 9, 10, held together by spring wires 13 located in circumferential grooves 11, 12, Figs. 4 and 6. In the modification shown in Fig. 8, race members 22 and housing 25 have corresponding spherical contours for self-aligning purposes. Members 22 may be pressed apart by an annular spring 28, Fig. 10. In other modifications, the annular race members are formed partly of synthetic resin and partly of metal. Lubrication passages are provided. Specifications 567,905 and 575,081 are referred to.
