Abstract

733,888. Cooling discharge tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 7, 1953 [April 10, 1952], No. 9396/53. Class 39 (1). In a cooler comprising radial fins 6 enclosed within or united to form a cylindrical wall 8, gases for cooling enter the space between the fins at one end as at 9, and additional gases enter at intermediate points such as 10 distributed along the length of the fins, the gas flows mixing and thereafter continuing to flow over the fins. The cylindrical wall 8 may be the inner wall of coaxial conduit 7, 8 supplying the gas. The fins are attached to a support 4 which may be soldered to the cylindrical anode 2 of the discharge tube. Increased efficiency is obtained owing to the lower gas temperature, greater turbulence and increased gas velocity after point 10.
