Abstract
In a modification of the oxygen-refining process disclosed in the parent Specification at least one of the gas supply passages of the multiple jet is provided by a plurality of pipes of relatively small diameter spaced round the axis of the jet. As illustrated in Fig. 1, the jet may consist of a central tube 10, which may carry a low pressure gas containing powdered additives in suspension, and surrounding which is a coaxial tube 11 forming an annular passage 12 through which is passed a high-pressure oxygen stream. Within passage 12 are situated a number of smaller diameter pipes 13 connected at their upper ends to a common gas supply, which may for example provide low pressure fuel gas. In an alternative form of the invention shown in Fig. 2, the small diameter pipes 13 may be situated outside annular passage <PICT:0957110/C3/1> <PICT:0957110/C3/2> <PICT:0957110/C3/3> 12, while a further variant, suitable for water-cooling, appears in Fig. 4. In this form, central tube 10 is surrounded by smaller diameter tubes 13, which are in turn surrounded by coaxial tube 16 enclosing space 17 through which cooling water is passed. Tube 16 is surrounded by a further coaxial tube 18 forming an annular space 19 through which the third gas stream is passed.
