Abstract

558,825. Gas producers. JOHN, W. E. Aug. 26, 1942, No. 12040. [Class 55 (i)] Gas is withdrawn through a tube 14 extending downwards through the fuel in the hopper 11 to the fire zone 13, the end of the tube being fitted with a grating 26, and the air for combustion is supplied through tuyeres 15 which lead off from an annular space enclosed by a tube 16. The tuyeres are cooled by hollow inverted saddle shaped jackets 17 which are supplied with water by pipes 19 leading upwards through the air supply channel. The position of the tuyeres may be adjusted vertically by turning a nut 33 into which a sleeve 32 secured to the tube 16 is screwed. One or more spark arresters 27 in the form of a chain bag, or cone shaped perforated plate may be provided in the gas outlet 14.
