Abstract
577,296. Air supply for combustion. SPLADIS SOC. POUR L'APPLICATION D'INVENTIONS SCIENTIFIQUES. May 19, 1944, No. 9767. Convention date, July 15, 1943. [Class 51 (i)] Solid fuel is arranged in a combustion zone so as to present a sloping free surface to which one or more jets of air are delivered in a downward direction so as to sweep the surface of the fuel bed without penetrating deeply into the mass of the fuel, an auxiliary supply of air being also delivered upwardly through the fuel bed. As shown, air for combustion is delivered by a pipe 35 through pipes 37, 38 controlled by a valve 36. Air from the pipe 37 passes to the annular space 45 between cones 39, 41 and is directed by inclined vanes 44 to ports 47, discharging against the sloping surface 54 of the fuel bed 33. The fuel is supplied through an opening (not shown) in the casing 31 around the cone 39 and is supported by an annular plate 34. Combustion products escape through the inner cone 41 to an outlet pipe 43. The pipe 38 delivers air below the fuel bed. A tube 48 provided at the top with a glass disc 49 projects downwardly into the combustion zone. A pyrometer is associated with the tube to determine the temperature.in the combustion zone and air is supplied to the tube from a pipe 50 to prevent smoke and gases entering the lower end.
