Abstract
1,009,327. Oxygen lances. BRITISH OXYGEN CO. Ltd. Sept. 24, 1964 [Sept. 27, 1963], No. 38255/63. Heading F4B. A lance comprises a central tube 1 supplying low pressure oxygen, a coaxial tube 2 surrounding the tube 1 forming an annular passage 3 for the conveyance of liquid or gaseous fuel, a coaxial water jacket 6 surrounding the tube 2 forming an annular passage 5 for the supply of high pressure oxygen, and a nozzle comprising a ring 9 secured to the tube 2 and having radially extending fins 10, 11 contacting the tube 1 and the inner wall of the water jacket. The fins provide two concentric rings of passageways 13 promoting better mixing of the fluids leaving the nozzle. The nozzle may comprise a ring provided with inner and outer series of passageways of circular cross-section, Fig. 2 (not shown). The passageways may be longitudinal or at an angle to the axis of the tubes and may be convergentdivergent to provide high velocity streams of fluid.
