Abstract

570,679. Cooling electron discharge apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES , & CABLES. Ltd. Sept. 10, 1943, No. 14866. Convention date, Oct. 5, 1942. [Class 64 (iii)] [Also in Group XL] In a cooling system for an electron discharge device, the hot body is connected by thermal conducting means with a system of pipes for cooling liquid in order that the system may be maintained at a temperature lower than the body. In one construction a single spiral coil of pipe touches the outer edges of a series of pins on the hot body. Alternatively flat pipes may be sandwiched between the outer extremities of such pins. In the construction shown the body 70 is provided with pins 72 which conduct heat to a wall 74 which bears further pins 75 containing cooling pipes 76, 77, and 78 which are connected in series as shown by headers 81, 82, 83, 84, and 85 and return pipes 86 and 87. In another construction this outer set of ribs may be spiral and have a series of cooling tubes sandwiched between them. The inner set of pins may also be replaced by a solid slab of metal. Specification 562,274, [Group XL], is referred to.
