Abstract
959,601. Metal-vapour lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Aug. 1, 1962 [Aug. 1, 1961], No. 27864/61. Heading H1D. The mercury vapour pressure in a mercury vapour lamp 3 is controlled by using an assembly 9 of thermocouples electrically connected in one or more series circuits to provide a local cold spot on the wall of the lamp, the hot junction 10 being in contact with a heatdissipating member 5 which also carries the cooling device 9, and is biased to hold the cooling device against the lamp envelope. The heat-dissipating member may be a reflector 5 mounted behind two lamps 3, as shown, biased both by the spring 8 and by its own flexibility. Aluminium strips 13 may be mounted on the reflector 5 to provide improved heat dissipation. Specifications 817,076, 941,335 and 959,602 are referred to.
