Abstract
555,323. Discharge apparatus. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and YOUNG, A. J. Feb. 10, 1942, No. 1770. [Class 39 (i)] A device for cooling metallic bodies, such as the anodes of electronic valves, of the kind in which fins F are disposed co-axially about and in heat-exchanging contact with the body, and in which the fins are surrounded by a duct of larger diameter to provide an annular space through which the cooling fluid flows, a continuous barrier B is provided between the outer edges of the fins and the wall of the duct, whereby the fluid entering on one side of the barrier is constrained to pass between the fins to reach the outlet on the other side. As shown, a single barrier in the form of an ellipse may be used. Alternatively two or more barriers arranged as in Fig. 2 (not shown) may be used. The fins may be brass or copper washers, or may be cut out of a solid block. The barrier may be attached to the inner wall of the duct or to the edges of all or some of the fins.
