Abstract

760,536. Discharge apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 6, 1954, No. 22918/54. Class 39(1). Cooling apparatus for an electric discharge device, such as a valve, having a metal envelope portion, e.g. an anode 14, comprises a copper sleeve 1 adapted to fit closely about the metal envelope portion, a set of annular metal fins 4 secured at their inner periphery to the sleeve 1 and a set of helices 7 equally spaced around the circumference of the set of fins, each fin 4 being grasped at 8 between adjacent turns of each helix. Each fin is upturned at its inner periphery to ensure good thermal contact between the fins and the sleeve. The apparatus is made by assembling the set of pins 4 on the sleeve 1 between end plates 5 and 6 with rings of solder in contact with the fins and sleeve and on the outer side of the end plate 6, inserting the helices 7 with the turns between the fins and heating the assembly to melt the solder. The sleeve 1 carries an extension 2 provided with an end cap 3 for seating the discharge device in a holder.
