In a space heating or cooling apparatus, applicable to rooms, incubators, or refrigerators, in which a heating or cooling fluid flows through a pipe 1 provided with a plate 2 for heating 'or cooling a heat transmitting body, e.g. a layer of plaster 8 or other lining of a room, the plate 2 embraces and is metallically connected to the pipe 1 and is spaced from the heat-transmitting body 8, and the surface of the plate facing the heat-transmitting body is provided with many closely spaced recesses 3, which are small in comparison with the area of the plate containing them. The plate 2 may be connected to the pipe 1 by welding or soldering. The recesses 3 may be conical, paraboloidal, hyperbolic, elliptical, cylindrical, or prismatic, and may be circular, triangular, quadrangular, or polygonal in crosssection. A water-repelling layer, e.g. regenerated cellulose or metal foil, may be provided between the plate 2 and plaster 8, and may be removable after application of the latter. The plate 2 may be flat, except where it embraces the pipe, or the plate and the plaster 8 may be shaped as shown, to equalise the temperature of the plaster surface.
