763,722. Furnace linings. HUET, A. Oct. 22. 1951 [Oct. 20, 1950], No. 24562/50. Class 51 (1), In a combustion chamber the walls are lined with water tubes a having fins bl, b2 directly exposed to radiation from the furnace and a wall of sheet metal c is disposed behind the fins and is secured to the tubes. The wall c may be backed by refractory f and may have an undulating surface similar to that shown in Fig. 3. It may be secured to the tubes by spot welding or screw-threaded studs and nuts or collars fastened to the wall and embracing the tubes. The connections between the tubes and the wall may be such as to thermally insulate one from the other. In a modification, Fig. 2, the wall c, Fig. 2, may be formed by welding adjacent edges e of additional fins d secured to the tubes on the side thereof remote from that exposed to the furnace radiation. The differences of expansion in the fins b<SP>1</SP>, b<SP>2</SP> along their lengths may render it necessary to provide slits in said fins. Specification 723,770 is referred to.
