Abstract

1329199 Fuel supply to rotary furnaces; discharging ALLIS-CHALMERS CORP 17 Dec 1971 [24 Dec 1970] 58696/71 Heading F4 In a rotary kiln having an end wall and at least one radial outlet at its discharge end, and a number of burners projecting through the kiln shell, the burners are connected to annular air/gas supply manifolds coaxial with and spaced from the kiln by tubes mounted externally of the kiln and rotating with it. A kiln 1, Figs. 1 and 3, has an end wall 6 and two radial outlets 2, 3. Burners e.g. 54, Fig. 1, project through the kiln shell and are supplied by tubes 50, 51 which extend longitudinally of the kiln, are bent to be parallel to the end wall and are connected to the rotary parts 30, 42 of annular manifolds spaced from the end wall of the kiln. Each manifold comprises a channel part 30, 42 secured to a kiln extension 6a housing a main burner, and rotating with it. Stationary covers 28, 40 are sealed to the channels and are connected to the fuel and air supplies. The fuel manifold is smaller in diameter than the air manifold, and further from the kiln, the fuel pipes passing between the air manifold and the kiln stem. A hood comprising rotary end wall 6, annular wall 7 and stationary shroud 64 encloses the outlets 2, 3, the air and fuel supply tubes passing through tubular spacers 8 between the walls 4 and 7. The supply tubes 50, 51 are arranged in two groups so that no tube crosses a discharge port, and are screened from the kiln interior by refractory material 61 surrounding the spacers 8 and defining the radial outlets (Fig. 2, not shown).
