Abstract

Apparatus for the production of oil furnace carbon black by thermal decomposition of hydrocarbon-forming feedstock, comprising: (a) an elongated cylindrical housing provided with first and second sections at the rear and front ends respectively, in the direction of the current flow of said reactor, coaxially aligned and in substantially horizontal communication; (b) a refractory lining provided with a uniform internal diameter, enclosed within the aforementioned first housing section; (c) a tangential opening extended through the first housing section and the liner, at least at an intermediate point to the ends of the aforementioned first housing section; (d) a tunnel burner communicating with said tangential opening; (e) an air inlet opening extended through the second housing section, including a duct communicating with said opening; (f) a centrally perforated end plate that closes the second housing section; (g) a cylindrical baffle coaxially mounted within the second housing section, endowed with a diameter substantially equal to the interior of the lining of the first section and extending from the rear end of the second section in spaced relation to said end plate, establishing an annular zone between the second housing section and the baffle; (h) a diffuser plate centrally provided with an opening and provided with a series of perforations around said opening, coaxially mounted between the first and second housing sections; and (i) a burner assembly and a feed material injection device axially mounted through the central openings of said end plate and the diffuser plate, in said reactor.
