Abstract

A liquid adhesive is made by mixing animal glue with a liquid, water-soluble, halogen-substituted, aliphatic alcohol at 40 to 80 DEG C., the amount of alcohol being sufficient to dissolve the animal glue. The alcohol may be ethylene chlorohydrin, ethylene bromohydrin, ethylene fluorohydrin, propylene chlorohydrin, dichlorohydrin, dibromohydrin or monochlorglycerol. The glue may be mixed with, e.g. dissolved in, water before the alcohol is added. Preferably, the adhesive should not contain less than 75 per cent by weight of ethylene chlorohydrin based on the glue.
