Abstract

Cellular phenolic resins with improved texture are prepared by foaming a liquid phenolaldehyde resin containing a small amount of cellulose acetate butyrate using a carbonate and an acid. In an example, a 15% solution of cellulose acetate butyrate in methyl "Cellosolve" (Registered Trade Mark) acetate is added to a phenolic syrup which is then blended with a carbonate and a strong acid added to give a rapidly foaming mixture.ALSO:Cellular phenolic resins with improved texture are prepared by foaming a liquid phenolaldehyde resin containing a small amount of cellulose acetate butyrate. In an example, a 15% solution of cellulose acetate butyrate in methyl "Cellosolve" (Registered Trade Mark) acetate is added to a phenolic syrup which is then blended with a carbonate and a strong acid added to give a rapidly foaming mixture.
