A short link for a conveyer chain of the kind comprising relatively long links which are interconnected by short links each provided with two pairs of rollers having their axes mutually at right angles for supporting the chain on a tubular or like track comprises four metal strips a, Fig. 6, provided with notches b enabling the strips to be assembled to form a central cell c, Fig. 1, and holes d to receive pivot pins e carrying rollers f. Four additional strips g, Fig. 7, each comprising a notched shank portion g<SP>1</SP> extending from one end of a wider portion g<SP>2</SP> are assembled in the cell c by inserting the strips in pairs through opposite ends of the cell, engaging the shank portions g<SP>1</SP> as shown in Fig. 7 and then turning the strips about a common axis so that the planes of one pair are parallel with one diagonal of the cell and the planes of the other pair are parallel with the other diagonal of the cell. The strips g are secured in this position by four triangular wedges i inserted into the corners of the cell. The ends of each pair of strips are connected together by hollow rivets or bushes h shown in Fig. 2, which is a side view looking in the direction of the arrow in Fig. 1. Pins are inserted through the bushes h to provide pivotal connections to adjacent long links of the conveyer, the axes of the pivotal connections being at right angles to each other. In the case where these axes are parallel, the four strips g may be substituted by a single pair of parallel strips each having formed in each of its longitudinal edges a notch equal in width to the width of a strip a. The strips are inserted through the cell and turned so that they occupy a position parallel with a diagonal of the cell, in which position they are secured by a pair of triangular wedges occupying one opposite pair of corners of the cell.
