Abstract

731,491. Counting-apparatus. LANDIS & GYR AKT.-GES. June 10, 1953 [June 11 1952], No. 16015/53. Class 106 (1). The shafts of a multiple-tariff counting- mechanism for an electricity meter are all disposed vertically and those 4 carrying the numeral drums 3, or equivalent members, lie in a common plane. In the triple tariff mechanism shown, the meter spindle 5 drives a shaft 11 connected to a shaft 12 by means of removable spur gears 9 and 10 disposed above an upper bearing-plate 29 and providing for adjustment of the transmission ratio between the meter and counter. The shaft 12 is adapted to drive either a shaft 20 by the engagement of gears 15 and 17, or a shaft 22 by the engagement of gears 16 and 18. To effect selective engagement of these gears, the contiguous inner ends of upper and lower shafts 6 carrying the driven gears 17, 18 are supported by pivoted arms 37 held by springs 38 against pins 39 on a three-armed lever 40 rockable against a spring 43 by an electromagnet 44. When, as shown (Fig. 3), the electromagnet is de-energized, the spring 43 overcomes the spring 38 and rocks the upper shaft 6 to engage the gears 15 and 17, whereas energization of the electromagnet reverses the arms 37 and engages the gears 16 and 18. The shaft 20 is connected to the upper counting train, whilst the shaft 22 is connected by a similar arrangement of alternatively engageable gears 23, 25 and 24, 26, controlled by a second electromagnet, with the central and lower counting trains. Thus, by selective energization of the two electromagnets, any one of the three trains may be coupled to the meter spindle.
