Abstract
731,424. Collapsible boxes. SMITH, E. C. April 18, 1952 [May 8, 1951], No. 10823/51. Class 18. The sides 8, 15 of a collapsible box or trunk are hinged to edge pieces 2, 2<SP>1</SP> of a tray-like base, ends 9, 16 of the box being hinged to sides 8, 15 respectively, and a lid 18, similar to the base, being hinged to side 15. To collapse the box the lid is raised, the ends are folded inwardly against the sides, side 8 with end 9 is folded onto the base 1, and side 15 with end 16 is raised until the ends of leaves 12 of the hinges securing the side to the base reach stops at the lower ends of guides 14. The side with its end is then rotated in an anti-clockwise direction and the leaves 12 in a clockwise direction to bring side 15 against the other side. The lid is then lowered so as to overlie the sides and ends and to lie squarely on the base.
