Abstract

Class 38 (1), A self-contained shutter assembly for a socket connector comprises a pair of insulating plates 2 having thickened lower portions 3 so that when the plates are secured together face to face a recess is formed to accommodate a link 17 fixedly pivoted at one end at 18 and connected at its other end to a lever 12 having a chamfered nose 15 for engagement by an earth pin. The inner end of lever 12 is pivoted to lugs 10 secured to an insulating shutter plate 9, and pins 13 carried by the lugs, one of which forms the pivot for lever 12, engage arcuate slots 14 in the plates 2. A spring 22 maintains the shutter in the normal position shown. Engagement of nose 15 by an earth pin deflects lever 12 and shutter 9, the shutter being constrained to an arcuate path by the pins 13.
