728,598. Actuation of switches. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 9, 1953 [May 21, 1952], No. 12832/52. Class 38 (5) [Also in Group XXI] An electrically actuated delay switch consists of a closed tubular body c, having mounted in one end a pair of switch contacts t, T and in the other end a fusehead f formed by a resistance wire coated with a combustible material. The combustible material is ignited on the passage of an electric current through the resistance wire, and the hot gases so generated cause the metal diaphragm d to bridge the switch contacts t, T. The body may be of a conducting material so serving as one of the contacts, whilst the diaphragm d may be replaced by a movable metal cap, in which case a vent hole is provided in the body adjacent the contacts. A delay element, comprising a plug through which extends a core of combustible material, may be interposed between the fusehead and the diaphragm.
