Abstract
681,481. Blasting fuzes. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. March 14, 1951 '[March 14, 1950], No. 6344/50. Class 9(i) An electric detonator is provided having a metal casing connected by an electric conductor to one pole-piece the outer surface of the casing being covered with insulating material. The detonator has a metal casing 1 closed by a plug 2 and contains secondary and primary initiating charges 3, 4 fired by a matchhead 5 on metallic pole-pieces 6 separated by an insulating layer 7. The pole-pieces are soldered to the bared ends 11, 11<SP>1</SP> of the leg wires, one bared end in each detonator being soldered to a copper strip 10 which connects a pole-piece 6 to the metal casing 1. A leg wire from each detonator leads to an insulated terminal 14, 15 connected by cables 16, 17 to an exploder 18. When the circuit is complete, current flows by way of the cable 16, leading wire 11, and matchhead 5 of the left-hand detonator through leading wire 11<SP>1</SP> to the right-hand detonator and back through the cable 17. Each metal casing 1 is covered by an insulating coating 13 of. rubberlike material, which prevents short-circuiting to earth through the casing.
