Abstract

728,374. Gate posts; ground arches. SCAMBLER, T. F. Aug. 13, 1953 [Sept. 30, 1952], No. 24443/52. Class 45. [Also in Group XXV] A gate post comprises a post and a base, the base being adapted for anchoring on the ground, and the post being retained in the base by a member 19 passing through aligned apertures 11, 18 in the post and in the base, the post being fitted with a base plate 12 adapted to seat on a surface forming part of the base, the apertures 18 provided in the base to receive the member 19 being formed in parts 17 of the base which extend above the said surface. As shown the gate post consists of two L-shaped steel sections 10<SP>1</SP>, 10<SP>2</SP> welded together to form a hollow box-like structure, the bottom of which is closed by the base plate 12 which projects on two opposite sides, reinforcing webs 13 being welded to the projecting parts of the plate 12 and to the L shape sections. The base consists of a top section 14 of inverted V shape, the upper side of which forms the base plate receiving surface, which is connected by side plates 15 to an arched bottom plate 16. A strengthening stay 21 s welded between the two side plates 15 and the two apertured .ugs 17 are welded one on each side of the top section. The bottom plate 12 of the post rests on the top of the section 14. In a modification the plate 12 extends from one side of the post only and is rolled upwardly at its outer end. The top section 14 has strips extending on each side for its whole length a pin for engaging the rolled end of the plate 12 extending between the strips at one end, and an aperture in each for the member 18, which is a pin or bolt, being provided at the other end. In either construc tion gate fittings are welded to the spot.
