870,137. Distortable frameworks: foundations for buildings. BROCKHOUSE STEEL STRUCTURES Ltd. March 27, 1958 [April 3, 1957], No. 10829/57. Classes 20(1) and 20(2) In a distortable framework for a building subject to mining subsidence there is provided a vertical stanchion which is secured to a foundation or the top of another stanchion by a connection which permits a controlled amount of universal rocking movement about its lower end, and also a controlled amount of vertical lift between the stanchion and its support. The stanchion comprises two channel section members 10 joined together by plates 11 and having an end plate 12 at their lower ends which has a central aperture 13. Secured to the underside of this plate is a domed bearing block 14 also with a central aperture and bearing on a plate 17 firmly secured to the foundations and having a vertically extending rod 18 passing through it. The apertures in the block 14 and plate 12 are made larger than the rod 18 which passes through them so that the stanchion may rock. A plate 20 passing through a slot 21 in the rod prevents undue vertical movement of the stanchion. Specification 825,059 is referred to.
