Abstract
674,711. Reinforced concrete floors; electric conduits in floors. ROBERTSON CO., H. H. Sept. 7, 1950, No. 22119/50. Classes 20(ii) and 20(iv). The load bearing reinforcement of the concrete floors of a reinforced concrete, steel framed building is formed either as a whole or in part by a ' number of spaced, parallel hollow metal beams which extend across the floor supporting members of the steel frame and are entirely surrounded by the floor concrete, the beams also being adapted for use as electric wiring conduits. In the typical floor structure shown in Fig. 1, a number of columns 10 support girders 12 between which extend the floor supporting joists 14. A number of spaced, hollow beams 16 extend across and are welded to 'joists 14, the beams, together with a number -of steel bars 24, forming the reinforcement for the floor. Electric wiring is run as required through the beams 16, a cross-over duct 26, having junction boxes 28 opening through the floor, being provided at selected points along the beams. The hollow beams preferably consist of an upper inverted channel shaped member 18 closed by a lower plate 22, as shown in Fig. 4.
