825,059. Distortable frameworks. BROCKHOUSE STEEL STRUCTURES Ltd. March 7, 1957 [March 10, 1956], No. 7566/56. Class 20(1) A distortable constructional framework for use in large buildings particularly when mining subsidence is prevalent comprises vertical members 11, 12 braced by a member 10 whose length is variable when placed under abnormal loads. The member 10 comprises two channel section members separated by spacers 15 and has at each end a load bearing member 22 which is fixed to the framework as at 26 by a pin or bolt. The lowermost member 22 is joined to a rod which passes through and is capable of movement against the action of the spring 30 but which is restrained from moving in the opposite direction by passing through and engaging the inner end of the abutment sleeve 19. In a similar manner the uppermost member 22 is constrained to move only outwardly relative to the frame member 10 against the action of the spring 30.
