Abstract
727,864. Valves. ROSS, J. C. July 22, 1953, No. 20346/53. Class 135. A mixing faucet comprises hot and cold water inlet chambers 12, 13, Fig. 1, valves 32, 33 controlling passages leading from the inlet chambers to a mixing chamber 16, and a cam 20 which contacts the valves and which can be given a longitudinal movement parallel to that of the valves to open them in unison or a rotary movement to actuate the valve independently. An outlet from chamber 16 leads to a discharge spout (not shown). Each valve is carried on the end of a stem which is provided with leakagepreventing grooves and which passes through the material of the body of the fitting into a further chamber where its upper end is engaged by the peripheral cam surface on the underface of cam 20. Cam 20, Fig. 3, carries an upstanding spindle the upper end of which is provided with a slot 58 housing a disc cam 51 formed on the end of an actuating handle 50. The latter is pivoted on a screw 55 in a rotatable cap 40 so that, when the handle is lowered, cam 51 will depress cam 20 and both valves 32, 33, but when the handle and cap 40 are rotated about a vertical axis, cam 20 will be rotated and the valves 32, 33 will be opened differentially. Screwed plugs 27, 28 allow of access to the separate inlet chambers.
