727,739. Cathode-ray tubes. COMPAGNIE POUR LA FABRICATION DES COMPTEURS ET MATERIEL D'USINES A GAZ. April 25, 1952 [April 28, 1951], No. 10497/52. Class 39 (1). The target of a storage tube is of insulating material rendered conductive by bombardment of the scanning electron beam, and minute traces of other materials are added to the insulating material to reduce the duration of the induced conductivity. The storage layer may be zinc sulphide with added silver and nickel in the proportions 10<SP>-4</SP> and 10<SP>-6</SP> respectively, zinc oxide containing excess of zinc or cadmium oxide with excess of cadmium, or calcium oxide containing slight traces of cerium. The storage target 4 comprises an insulating layer 14 as above and of one micron thickness on a conducting layer 12. The anode 5 includes a fine mesh parallel to the storage electrode. The gun 3 modulated by electrode 10 lays down a charge image on layer 14 and a penetrating beam from the gun 2 modulated at 10 mc/s. by control grid 7 scans the charge image and by induced conductivity furnishes a signal which is passed through filter 16 to the output circuit.
