Abstract
721,948. Television pick-up tubes. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO., Ltd. March 17, 1952 [July 9, 1951]. No. 16273/51. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (1). The target for a television pick-up tube comprises a transparent signal layer 2 covered by a coating of insulating material applied e.g. through a mesh to form insulating squares or areas, and a layer of photo-conductive material which is only in electrical contact with the signal layer at the gaps between the insulating squares or areas. The insulating material may be SiO 2 applied by evaporation in vacuo. Control of the thickness of the photo conductive layer and of the size of the insulating portions enables the effective resistivity and the time-constant of the target to be adjusted and for photo conductive material of otherwise low resistance to be'used. In a modification the insulating layer is continuous with holes therethrough giving electrical contact between the photo conductive layer and the base.
