Abstract
655,291. Cathode-ray tubes. CINEMATELEVISION, Ltd., and FREEMAN, G. S. P. Nov. 22, 1948, No. 30264. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] A television pick-up tube comprises a target consisting of a thin metallic layer on which is arranged to be incident an electron image of the picture to be transmitted, a thin semiconducting layer arranged to be scanned by an electron beam, and a layer between them within which the electrons forming the image are arranged to come to rest and to cause the emission of secondary electrons which build up local negative charges on the semi-conducting layer. The metallic layer may be of aluminium and may be used as the signal plate; the secondary emissive layer may be of aluminium oxide and the semi-conducting layer of glass. The glass may be spaced 0.0002 inches from the aluminium oxide. In another construction the glass is coated with a cellular amorphous layer of aluminium oxide on which an aluminium film is deposited.
