597,532. Cathode-ray tubes electron image tubes. LUBSZYNSKI, H. G. July 12, 1945, No. 17798. [Class 39 (i)] In a television transmitting tube an electron image corresponding to an optical image on photo-electric cathode 5 is projected through a signal plate film 3 and further through an insulating film 2 on to a sheet 1 of conducting glass or material such as enamel of like resistivity and the other side of the sheet is scanned by an electron beam to restore equilibrium potential and provide signals. The image electrons penetrate the films 1 and 2 for suitable potentials applied to cathode 5, conducting film 3 and conducting glass 1, and the cathode 5 may be so close to the composite screen that no electron image focusing arrangements are required. Sheet 1 has resistivity, e.g. 2 X 10<8> to 10<11> ohm cms., and thickness, e.g. 0.001 inch, less than half the scanning spot diameter so that during a frame scanning period the image electrons may spread through from front to back but not considerably laterally. Insulating film 2, which may be 0.0004 inch thick, may be produced by hydrolising ethyl silicate, or evaporating and oxidising aluminium or magnesium, or evaporating an insulator such as a borate or fluoride. And signal plate film 3 may be evaporated aluminium, beryllium or molybdenum 5 to 60 Angstroms thick.
