Abstract

580,887. Television; cathode ray tubes. LUBSZYNSKI, H. G. March 16, 1944, No. 4889. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii)] In cathode-ray apparatus employing a tube including a screen which emits electrons when scanned by a cathode-ray beam and an electrode which can be pulsed to collect electrons released from the screen when the electron beam is not operating to develop signals, the signals derived from scanning the screen are applied to a further screen which is subsequently scanned at a slower rate to re-develop the signals for transmission so that the pulses can be applied to the electrode for a large proportion of the scanning time of the further screen to increase the sensitivity of the tube. As shown the invention is applied to a television transmitting arrangement in which the image projected on the screen 2 of the tube 1 is scanned and the signals are applied from resistance 13 and amplifier 18 to a further screen 20 in a tube 19 which is subsequently scanned at a slower rate to produce signals for transmission. The signals derived from the rapid scanning of the screen 2 may be applied to the screen 20 scanned by an unmodulated beam or the scanning beam of the tube 19 may be modulated at its cathode 21. The screen 20 may be double-sided and separate scanning beams employed for applying the signals derived from the first screen and for re-developing the signals. The pulses are applied from a source 17 to the electrode 5 and in the second tube pulses may be applied to the electrode 24 during the period the signals, derived from the tube 1, are applied to the screen 20. The screen 2 may be photo-sensitive or of the type which carries an electron image of the subject for transmission. The Provisional Specification also describes an arrangement for reducing " tilt " by utilizing different scanning sequences for the two cathode-ray tubes, for example left to right in one case and right to left in the other case.
