Abstract
725,924. Control of two D.C. motors. FORTUNA - WERKE SPEZIALMASCHINEN - FABRIK AKT.-GES. Nov. 2, 1953 [Nov. 8, 1952], No. 30187/53. Class 38 (3) [Also in Group XXIII] A grinding machine has a grinding-wheel motor 8 and a low-power motor 27 for driving the workpiece, a Ward Leonard generator 4 being provided for alternatively supplying the motor 27 during the grinding operation or energizing the motor 8 for trueing the wheel or like low-speed operation. An A.C. motor 1 drives the machine 4 as well as a self-excited D.C. generator 2, and, during the grinding operation this generator supplies the armature of the motor 8 in addition to the field windings 5, 28, 24, of the machines 4, 27, 8. The field winding 5 is then connected to a potentiometer 6, whilst the winding 24 is excited through resistor 25 and potentiometer 26, and the winding 28 receives the full voltage of the generator. When switches A-E are changed over by a common member 29, the motor 8 is connected to the generator 4 and the motor 27 is disconnected if desired. The field winding 5 of the Ward Leonard generator is now connected to a potentiometer 7. The generator 4 may be replaced by another form of low power amplifier such as an amplidyne unit, valve amplifier, or magnetic amplifier
