Abstract
724,977. Photo-electric devices. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. March 23, 1953 [April 18, 1952], No. 7883/53. Class 37. [Also in Group XL (a)] A radiation image converter with associated photo-conductive and electro-luminescent layers consists of a conductive layer 6 transparent to an incident radiation such as X-rays, a photo-conductive layer 5, e.g. of cadmium sulphide, a highresistance layer 4, e.g. carbon, an electroluminescent layer, e.g. zinc sulphide, and a transparent conductive layer 2, all superimposed and supported by a glass plate in a container 7 which may be evacuated. A number of such assemblies may be combined to give a cascade amplification (Fig. 4, not shown). The layer 4 may be transparent for a feedback regenerative effect. When visible light is to be converted, it is pulsed by a rotating shutter; but for television, motion-picture and X-ray images no additional pulsing is necessary.
